100.000 downloads and counting!

And we have more good news to announce. We have finally reached the milestone of 100.000 downloads! Since the first release back in May 2005 the number of downloads has been increasing almost monthly. The following graphic shows this trend.

As you can see, about half of the 100.000 downloads so far happened in the last 8 months. So I think we can say we’re doing a good job so far.

български език (Bulgarian) translation available

Dimitar (aka mitakas) provided us with a Bulgarian translation. The installer for the translation can be downloaded over here .

Note that because this translation was released after Startup Manager 2.4.1, it is not included in the Startup Manager installer. But you can download and install it separately by clicking the previously mentioned download link or by navigating to the translations page in the downloads section and selecting the Bulgarian installer.

Edit offline user’s startup items

As administrator, you might not only want to edit only your own startup configuration and the global startup configuration, but also the startup configuration of invidual users.

In order to implement this feature in Startup Manager, we could provide some list with user names in Startup Manager and mount the user registry based on the selection in this list. But the fact is that this is only possible on Windows NT.

So we should ask ourselves the following question: "Is it OK to drop support for Windows previous to Windows 2000? ". In my own opinion it is, but what do you think?

Win32++ 6.1 released

New website

Anyone who hit the "project web site" button on the sourceforge page or tried to access http://st-m.sourceforge.net/ will have noticed that he came on a different web page. I suggest you get used to it since that’s the new Startup Manager website. It is accessible through http://startupmanager.org/ and is hosted by 1 & 1 Internet inc.

Our goal with this new website was to provide a fresh and modern looking design to anyone who is interested. The website uses Wordpress as backend and is designed by George French (aka Deimnos).
As of today the new website replaces the old one, but it is not yet completely finished. The download page still needs some final touches and the wiki section isn’t implemented yet.

Enjoy the new website and the 2.4.1 Startup Manager release. And as always; all comments are appreciated.

Startup Manager 2.4.1 released!

It’s been a while that we released a new version of Startup Manager, therefore we now release version 2.4.1.

The new version 2.4.1 of Startup Manager - a program to manage the programs that start automatically - has some bug fixes and some settings that will improve the user experience. We also have four new translations available: Indonesian, Korean, Serbian and Vietnamese.

There also is an ANSI version available and source code available over here .
And finally there is a list with installers for the translations (all translations are also included in the Startup Manager setup file).

Win32++ 6.0 released

Win32++ is the framework Startup Manager uses for its GUI. It is an opensource project, hosted on sourceforge and licensed under the MIT license.

The following major changes were announced:

Added Networking support. Win32++ now includes a CSocket class which encapsulates much of the Winsock API.
Added a CDC class. This class simplifies the drawing to device contexts. This class can be used anywhere we would normally use a HDC.
